WAEC Nigeria Successfully Conducts 2026 CB-WASSCE School Exams for Candidates in Three Other African Countries – Amos Dangut

The 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates was not limited to Nigeria alone, as the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria extended the examination to schools in Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea, where the Nigerian Senior Secondary School curriculum is being implemented, Trek Africa Newspaper can report.
The Head of WAEC’s Nigeria National Office, Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut, disclosed this while announcing the release of the 2026 WASSCE results in Lagos on Wednesday, underscoring Nigeria’s growing role in the administration of regional secondary school examinations.
According to him, 1,959,668 candidates from 24,207 schools registered for this year’s examination, while 1,950,726 candidates eventually sat the examination conducted between April 24 and June 19, 2026. “The examination was also administered to candidates from some schools in Benin Republic, Côte d’Ivoire and Equatorial Guinea, where the Nigerian curriculum for Senior Secondary Schools is being used,” Dangut stated.
The development highlights WAEC Nigeria’s expanding educational footprint beyond the country’s borders, providing Nigerian curriculum-based schools in neighbouring and Central African countries the opportunity to write the same standardized examination as their counterparts in Nigeria.
Education stakeholders say the arrangement promotes uniform academic standards for Nigerian schools operating abroad while ensuring that students seeking admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions are assessed under the same examination framework.
Dangut also noted that the Council ensured inclusive participation during the exercise, revealing that 1,213 candidates with special needs, including the visually impaired, hearing impaired, physically challenged and mentally challenged, were adequately catered for during the examination, with all their results released alongside those of other candidates.
The successful administration of the examination across multiple countries, he said, further demonstrates WAEC’s capacity to deliver credible and standardized assessments beyond Nigeria’s borders, reinforcing its reputation as one of Africa’s foremost examining bodies.
