Speaking on the essence of the 2023 conference and awards themed Sustaining Women Empowerment through Technology and Innovation, Dr. Tewa Onasanya indicated ‘Women need to be celebrated, women need to be applauded, women need to be showcased so that other women can emulate them. This year is a year of resilience, it’s been 15 years and incidentally this is the venue we used in 2009, here we are again. Eloy has become the biggest and most consistent award ceremony for women.’

‘Challenges come in various forms like getting sponsorships and knowing who to nominate for the award but the public has helped in this regard when we throw in the criteria. This is an award built on integrity. The strength for this consistency is drawn from the fact that people light up when you celebrate them and they want to do more when they know that they are being seen’, she told Trek Africa Newspaper.

Onasanya added: ‘We hold conferences and seminars to inspire people and to provide access for women empowerment, mentoring, entrepreneurial training, and access to affordable loans so that they can thrive in their businesses and pursue their dreams. I will encourage women to come out and showcase yourself for the world to see.’

One of the awardees, Mrs. Tokunbo Chinedu who was honoured with ELOY Award on Women who inspire’ told Trek Africa Newspaper that she felt awesome about the recognition of the award. ‘There is a saying that women are not friends of each other but ELOY award has proved that wrong because the narrative is changing. It is one thing for you to think that you are doing your work and you are doing a good job but the real test of weather you are good in it is when people start appreciating your works and the efforts you put in doing things right. Touching lives positively should be paramount in everything we do and we shouldn’t base things on money at all time’.

‘Today I feel so happy being counted among the most prestigious women achiever, it’s a remarkable moment for me and this will make me to do better. Though I’m being celebrated today but am asking myself what next can I do to deserve another award in the coming year and how to become a bigger platform for women all over the world’.

On women participation in economy and politics, Mrs. Chinedu added: ‘Women are at the centre of everything that matters to humanity, when you help a women you help a nation so women empowerment should be at the top of government agendas. Everything that we do in life is not only for ourselves but when people start noticing your good work they will celebrate you’.

Earlier, the Secretary to the Lagos State Government, Mrs. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin representing the Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu commended the ELOY Awards, ‘this is a great program I see it as another form of talent hunt for women. I feel excited and and encouraged. I like the resilience, she has been at this for 15 years for women to know that they can be appreciated by their own. Any nation that wants to grow must take women seriously.’

‘Lagos State Government is far ahead of other states in terms of SME growth and support. At a SME workshop that I declared open yesterday, I was particularly touched by primary school children who were there to showcase their skills. At every point, our Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu is out to make sure the lives of people in Lagos are better by the day. That is why we are investing in SME, women, children, and youths.’
