ONIRU OF IRULAND TELLS PRES. TINUBU: DOUBLE RECRUITMENT INTO NIGERIA POLICE FROM 10,000 TO 20,000; AS DIG ALABI VISITS OBA OMOGBOLAHAN

The Oniru of Iru kingdom has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to support the Ministry of Police Affairs and Police Service Commission to increase yearly recruitment into Nigeria Police Force from the current 10,000 to 20,000 persons, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

NAOSNP can report that this is to cover up for the number of police officers who retire or die in active service annually.

The monarch, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal made this important note during the courtesy call of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Force CID, representing the Southwest, DIG Abiodun Alabi to his palace.

The monarch noted: ‘I must commend IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun who has been doing a lot to ensure that Nigeria is secure, along with you the DIG Force CID, I must commend you for all the support you have extended to us in Iruland, Lagos and Nigeria.’

‘The United Nations protocol says 1 police officer to 400 people and our population is over 200 million. The recruitment process needs to be looked into. Yes, you are recruiting 10,000 yearly but what about those who retire or die. At the end of the day, you will see that what you recruited may not be as much as those who retired or died. Instead of that 10000, can we up it to 20,000. With that, the police workforce will be stronger.’

On his part, the DIG representing the Southwest, DIG Abiodun Alabi appreciated the policeman-turned-monarch for championing security in Nigeria. He affirmed the need for interface with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective community policing in the country, adding that his visit was in line with the directive of the IGP for the six DIGs to tour their regions to assess security situation and come up with strategies to deal with such.

He added: ‘There is no society that is crime free, as you all know. Crime is a galloping phenomenon. Today, it can be brought down to almost zero level. Tomorrow, there is that tendency for it to be up again. It is now left for us to go back to the drawing board and re-strategize and emplaced strategic policing plan to deal with it decisively,’ DIG Alabi said.

The duty tour of DIG Abiodun Alabi across the Southwest is still ongoing.
