‘LET THE POLICE CONTINUE TO INVOLVED WITH PEOPLE’ – OBA OF LAGOS, OBA AKIOLU TELLS DIG ALABI ON COURTESY VISIT

During the courtesy visit of the Deputy Inspector-General of Police, DIG Force CID, representing the Southwest, DIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi to the palace of Oba of Lagos (the Eleko of Eko), Oba Rilwan Akiolu reiterated the role of community engagement towards effective policing, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.

 

The former policeman who is now a first-class traditional ruler said: ‘There is nowhere in the world where police is successful without the cooperation of the community. Let the police continue to be involved with the people.’

While appreciating the IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun and the police management team for the visit, the monarch emphasized that the concept of security is not for the Police Force or security agencies alone, the entire community must be involved.

 

Responding, The Deputy Inspector-General of Police representing South-west, DIG Abiodun Sylvester Alabi affirmed the need for interface with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective community policing in the country, adding that his visit was in line with the directive of the IGP for the six DIGs to tour their regions to assess security situation and come up with strategies to deal with such. He added: ‘There is no society that is crime free, as you all know. Crime is a galloping phenomenon. Today, it can be brought down to almost zero level. Tomorrow, there is that tendency for it to be up again. It is now left for us to go back to the drawing board and re-strategize and emplaced strategic policing plan to deal with it decisively,’ DIG Alabi said.

 

 

The disciplinarian par excellence, DIG Alabi will continue his tour across the Southwest throughout the week.
