As part of her ongoing working visits to key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Minister of Finance, Mr Taiwo Oyedele.
The visit focused on further strengthening the existing partnership between both institutions in advancing Nigeria’s digital economy and public financial management.
The Honourable Minister of Finance commended NIMC for the remarkable progress recorded in strengthening the national identity ecosystem. He emphasised that the National Identity Database has become a critical national asset that goes beyond the National Identification Number (NIN), playing a vital role in enhancing transparency, trust, and efficiency across Nigeria’s financial system.
Mr Oyedele highlighted that the database will significantly support key initiatives such as electronic invoicing, identity verification across financial institutions, safeguarding financial transactions, and improving regulatory compliance. He also noted that the enhanced legal framework provided by the newly enacted NIMC Act 2026 will effectively address security challenges, improve national planning through reliable identity data, and foster sustainable economic development that will positively impact the lives of Nigerians.
The working visit reaffirmed the shared commitment of the Federal Ministry of Finance and NIMC to deepening inter-agency collaboration. Both institutions are united in leveraging secure digital identity to strengthen financial governance, promote economic growth, enhance public service delivery, and support the Federal Government’s digital transformation agenda.
