Nigerian troops have thwarted an attempted Boko Haram ambush in Borno State, forcing the terrorists to flee and uncovering several makeshift camps believed to have been used as hideouts.

The incident occurred along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis, where troops of the 27 Task Force Brigade, operating under Operation HADIN KAI, came under attack while conducting a routine patrol.

The suspected terrorists attempted to spring an ambush on the military convoy, but the troops responded swiftly, forcing the attackers to withdraw from the area in disarray.

Rather than stopping at the initial encounter, the military deployed reinforcements to the location and launched a follow-up clearance operation across the surrounding terrain.

The operation led troops to several makeshift settlements suspected to have served as terrorist hideouts.

The camps were dismantled, while troops recovered a motorcycle, bicycles, a magazine, ammunition and rocket-propelled grenade bombs, according to sources.

No casualties were recorded among the troops during the encounter, although some military vehicles reportedly sustained damage.

Despite the damage, the troops remained operational and successfully completed the mission.

The latest development highlights the continuing military push to disrupt terrorist networks and deny them safe havens and freedom of movement across Borno and the wider North-East.

Security along the Buni Gari–Buratai axis remains calm but unpredictable, with troops maintaining aggressive patrols and other security operations to protect communities and critical routes.

Residents have meanwhile been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or activities to security agencies.
