Mr Adewale Adedeji, member of Lagos State House of Assembly, marked his birthday by supporting 500 widows with food items and N10 million in Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos.
The gesture formed part of the sixth edition of the Adewale Temitope Adedeji Widows Empowerment Initiative held within the constituency.
Adedeji, representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency I, said the initiative reflected his understanding of widows’ emotional and financial struggles.
He said: “I understand the burdens many widows carry daily after losing their husbands.
“Beyond grief, many face the responsibility of sustaining their families under difficult circumstances.”
The lawmaker described the programme as part of his continued support for vulnerable residents across the constituency.
He pledged to expand the initiative and reach more beneficiaries in future editions.
“This initiative goes beyond food or cash support; it is about restoring hope and dignity. Every widow deserves to feel seen, supported and valued by society,” he said.
Adedeji said compassionate governance remained central to his representation at the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“As a representative, I believe governance must reflect compassion and care for the people,” he said.
He assured beneficiaries that he would continue supporting women and other vulnerable groups within the constituency.
Beneficiaries, All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders and community members commended the lawmaker for impactful representation and grassroots development.
Traditional ruler, Oba Iginla Akinbami, the Olu of Ishaga, praised Adedeji’s consistency and community support.
“Adedeji’s efforts have yielded visible results. We can all see the difference in our community,” Akinbami said.
APC Deputy Chairman in Ifako-Ijaiye, Mr Gbenga Agoye, described Adedeji as a dependable representative.
“We have no regrets supporting Adedeji. He has touched lives across our constituency,” Agoye said.
Agoye also urged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the 2027 general elections.
A beneficiary, Mrs Oluwagbemi Oyebisi, thanked the lawmaker for the support received.
“We received N20,000 each and more food items than we got last year,” she said.
Another beneficiary, Afolabi Afolayan, described Adedeji as a compassionate leader committed to community welfare.
“For his kindness and support, I will continue standing with him in future,” Afolayan said.
NAN reports that over 200 other constituents also received cash gifts and food items during the celebration.
