IGP Disu Receives National Defence College Leadership, Reaffirms Commitment To Police Reform, State Policing, And Inter-Agency Collaboration

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), today, 29th July, 2026 received the Commandant, management, directing staff, participants, and support staff of the National Defence College (NDC) on a courtesy visit to the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where discussions centred on police reform, state policing, command and coordination protocols, and other emerging internal security concerns, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP can report.
The NDC delegation was led by its Commandant, Rear Admiral A. Ahmed, and included Major General K. E. Chigbu, Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies; Air Vice Marshal E. Owai, College Secretary; Prof. A. O. Ahmad, Provost, CSRS; Brigadier General G. Oyinlola; Brigadier General J. M. Chima; Commodore A. N. Umaru; Colonel M. Haribu; Colonel T. O. Samson; Colonel M. I. Ajibike; and Colonel A. A. Abdulhalim. Also on the delegation were police participants, including CP S. A. Afunluhi, DCP S. Yahaya, DCP O. O. Yusuf, and DCP I. B. Usang.
In his remarks, the Commandant informed the Inspector-General that the paper presented by the participants was the product of rigorous research undertaken entirely by Police officers at the College. He noted that faculty members only provided academic guidance and methodological direction, while the participants applied their knowledge, critical thinking, and professional experience to develop practical, innovative, and implementable strategic options. He added that the findings and recommendations would contribute meaningfully to the national conversation on police reform and strengthen the capacity of the Nigeria Police Force to address contemporary and emerging internal security challenges towards 2035.
The Inspector-General of Police described the study as timely and highly relevant to Nigeria’s evolving security landscape, commending the officers for its depth, scholarly quality, and practical value. He noted that the research would provide a strong foundation for shaping the framework for state policing, particularly through its sound methodology, comprehensive analysis of public concerns, and practical recommendations informed by comparative experiences from countries operating state police systems.
The Inspector-General of Police reiterates the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to strengthening institutional collaboration with the National Defence College and other strategic partners in furtherance of effective policing, internal security, and national development.
