IMO APGA CHIEFTAIN, POLY EZUMOHA (POLYSAMEZ), CHARGES IMO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY ON VALUE ADDED TAX (VAT) BILL FOR THE STATE
By Trek Africa Newspaper
Mr. Poly Ezumoha
It’s no longer news that the war for a law to impose and charge Value Added Tax (VAT) on certain goods and services, has been raging and the bill proposed and passed by the Parliaments of some States.
Some core APC led States like Lagos and Ogun have joined River State, a PDP led State in the raging VAT war.
While Rivers and Lagos State Assemblies have passed the bills into law, and same signed by their State Governors, the Ogun State House of Assembly VAT bill passed the 2nd reading on Tuesday 14th September 2021, while that of some other Southern States are being discussed.
Imo State shouldn’t always be left out and shouldn’t be seen to play the truancy of another odd State as seen in the open grazing ban agreed upon by the Southern States, and therefore should hasten up the presentation, and passage of the bill into law.
The VAT bill, apart from helping to boost the socio-economic development of our dear State, would when passed into law, serve as a veritable source of revenue generation for the State’s infrastructural enhancement, growth and development. This makes the Bill imperative, and should not be toyed with or played politics with.
VAT revenue generated and administered in the State would help in fixing the ubiquitous bad rural roads, the construction of new ones, and the provision of school equipment, health healthcare facilities, and other needs that require financing.
Apart from calling the State Assembly to fast track the passage of the bill, I wish to also call on all Imo stakeholders, Imo youths, the political elites and leaders of thought etc, to request and prevail on Imo State Assembly to do the needful regarding the presentation and quick passage of Imo State VAT bill.
