Natasha Butler who spoke on ‘The Origin of Okra Gumbo’ in one of the masterclasses at the food and drink fest which held at GTCentre, Lekki, Lagos from Saturday 29th April to Workers’ Day, Monday 1st May, 2023 noted that ‘okra gumbo is one of the traditional gumbo in New Orleans. It is gumbo with the okra filling or thickener.’

In her brief chat with pressmen attended by Trek Africa Newspaper, Ms Butler added: ‘It is a recipe long passed down. I added chicken, fresh crab, and vegetables to make it healthy. It is an amazing experience to teach this to a Nigerian audience. They enjoyed my class.’
‘I will try the Nigerian okra too but I have tried the beef suya and jollof rice and they were amazing dishes. This is my first time in Nigeria, I hope to come often’, she concluded.

The 6th annual GTCO Food and Drink Festival provided a long holiday weekend of fun and enjoyment for family and friends in Lagos. The masterpiece tourist event featured food, fun, music, dance, games, and masterclass sessions. It promoted best practices and developed the skills and expertise of practitioners in the food and hospitality industry.
