Folashade Olabanji-Oba Got Standing Ovation, Received Community Development Award

Hon. Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba, Vice Chairman, Ikorodu Local Government with her award and portrait picture at the starlight newspaper lecture and award event in Ikorodu.

It was a case of celebrating the heroines of Ikorodu division at the Ikorodu town hall on Sunday 13th August 2018 as women across the division in colourful attires were seated 1to honour members of their folk who has paid their dues and contributed their quota in the development of the division.

The award ceremony which is the first of its kind in the division also doubled as a public lecture to treat the roles of Women in Community Building and gender equality in the civil service.

According to the chairman of the occasion, Barrister SOK Shillings, the former chairman of Nigeria Bar Association NBA Ikorodu Chapter, the ceremony is a significant breakthrough in the cultural growth as a community, state and nation at large.

He urged women to refuse to be relegated to the background and begin to take prominent positions in the society so they can impact lives like the awardees.
“The home alone is not big enough to contain the women folks anymore as they have done their services of home building and there’s still more energy left for them to thrive where men has failed. They excel in politics, they dictate the pace and build a nation” he narrated.

He finally commended Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba the vice Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government in all her efforts in community building since coming into office last here.

“she is always looking for new innovation on how to move the division forward and better the lives of residents in the division by supporting initiative such as the award ceremony” he commended.

Speaking on the roles of women in community building, the Director, Admin & HR Ministry of Special duties & intergovernmental Relations, Lagos State, Alhaja Basirat Akinsaya, the role of women in community development is perceived as secondary and most times very inferior to that of the men.

She called on women to challenge men and wrestle power away from them by adding values. She emphasized that the factors facing women in their role of community development has brought a lot of economic, social and political setbacks.

Having listed the challenges facing women in the society she finally urge government to drive policies that will empower women and include them more in leadership roles.
”the role of a woman in community development is so numerous to mention but should a fair playing ground be created for the woman, the society will be more better than what is has experienced so far, men should offer us their shoulders to ride on” she concluded.

In her paper, Princess Adetope Kosok, the former Registrar of the Lagos State Polytechnic Ikorodu, it is high time women appeal to their men counterpart to give them opportunity to also take leadership roles in the society.

She commended the Lagos state government for the opportunity given women in its cabinet and urges other states to replicate same.

The award ceremony was organized by Starlight Newspaper, a community newspaper based in the division tagged “Amazons Recognition Award” and saw women from the division like the the current vice chairman of Ikorodu Local Government, Princess Folashade Olabanji-Oba as the most outstanding female personality in the Executive Cabinet of Ikorodu Local Government.

Other awards and awardees include The former secretary to the Lagos state government, Princess Adenrele Ogunsanya awarded the most outstanding community heroine. The incumbent vice-Chairman Ijede Local Development Area, Hon. Gbadebo-Alogba Moturayo as the most promising youth for leadership. the Most Outstanding Female Personality in the executive cabinet of Igbogbo-Baiyeku LCDA, Mrs. Usman Ibidapo Folashade, the Head of Administration-Igbogbo Baiyeku LCDA. The Most Outstanding Female Personality in the executive cabinet of Ijede LCDA, Mrs Risqat Adepeju Salisu.

Outstanding Agent of Community Development won by Alhaja Basirat Akinsanya, Outstanding Agent of Community Development, Sobowale Omobolanle Kafilat, Mrs Oluwatoyin Rashidat SAKA and Chief Mrs Chinyerem Ezuma(Nelly). Most Promising Youth for Leadership in Ikorodu Central, Princess Adefolayiga Adebukolah Morounkolah. Most Promising Youth for Leadership in Ikorodu West LCDA, Ajibike Rukayat Adebukola. Most Promising Youth for Leadership in Igbogbo-Baiyeku Lcda, Comrade Comfort Olafare. Promising Youth for Leadership in Ikorodu North LCDA, Hon. Balikis Aderoju Ibrahim.

The award had in attendance the la cream de la cream of the society which includes, Hon Babajimi Benson, Hon Saka Sholaja, Prince Gbola Oba, Hon. Fatiu Salisu, Toyin Gafar Bolowotan, Priness Abiodeun Oyefusi, Comrade Diani, among others.
