The festive spirit was alive at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja as Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, hosted a heartwarming Christmas brunch for children from two foster homes—Abuja Children’s Home and Vine Heritage Home Foundation (VHHF).
In her address, Senator Tinubu highlighted the true essence of Christmas, urging Nigerians to embrace love, compassion, and unity while spreading the joy of the season throughout the year. “Christmas should remind us to love our neighbours and go all out to help others. Next year, let’s make it a year of love and a cleaner, greener Nigeria,” she said.
The First Lady emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to improving the lives of Nigerians and expressed optimism for the coming year, describing 2025 as a year of hope, love, and the fulfillment of God’s goodness in the nation.
She encouraged the children to embody love and kindness in their daily interactions, reflecting the example of Christ, whose birth is the reason for the Christmas celebration. “The reason we are all here is to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ,” she said.
A Touch of Inspiration and Learning
The highlight of the event was Senator Tinubu’s reading of her book, The Christmas Story, which reimagines the birth of Jesus with Nigerian characters, making the story more relatable and inspiring for the children. The First Lady also engaged the children in a Q&A session, fostering a deeper understanding of the season’s significance.
The event featured a national anthem contest where the children competed enthusiastically, with winners receiving cash prizes. They were also treated to an array of gifts, delicious food, and drinks, leaving them with smiles and fond memories.
Message of Hope for 2025
Speaking with journalists after the event, the First Lady reflected on her personal journey, urging Nigerians to enter the new year with faith, optimism, and a commitment to hard work. She reiterated the importance of working together to build a brighter future for the country.
