Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan At 50: Celebrating A Crystal of Humility, Excellence and Security General

At 50, Dr. Ayodele Ogunsan occupies an interesting intersection of Nigeria’s corporate, civic and security landscape. He is an entrepreneur, administrator, security advocate and public-sector executive whose current assignment places him at the centre of one of Lagos’s most consequential institutions – the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF). Yet, for those who have encountered him beyond the formalities of office, perhaps the more revealing description is that of a man whose public stature has grown without displacing the humility with which he relates to people.
That combination is central to understanding Dr. Ogunsan’s journey.
Appointed by the Executive Governor of Lagos, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu as Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the LSSTF, effective October 31, 2025, Dr. Ogunsan came into the position with prior institutional knowledge, having previously served on the Fund’s Board of Trustees. His appointment was explicitly situated within the Lagos State Government’s continuing effort to strengthen the State’s security architecture and its capacity to protect lives and property. But his engagement with security did not begin with his appointment as LSSTF chief executive. In 2024, the Nigeria Police Force appointed him Lagos State Chairman of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), citing his pedigree, experience and record of community-oriented security engagement. He subsequently became Patron of the initiative in Lagos.
This history matters because it explains something distinctive about Ogunsan’s approach: he has never treated security merely as a matter of equipment or enforcement. His work has increasingly embraced crime prevention, intelligence-led policing, officers’ training and development, community participation and institutional collaboration.
Since assuming the LSSTF leadership, that philosophy has acquired practical expression. The Fund has expanded inter-agency training for security personnel, with the 2026 programme targeting more than 1,000 personnel and focusing on professional capacity, ethical standards and collaboration. In May, the LSSTF launched a dedicated Intelligence Unit and messaging channels designed to improve citizen participation in intelligence gathering and strengthen intelligence-led policing.
Ogunsan has also pushed the security conversation beyond conventional boundaries. His engagement with the German Consulate, British High Commission, and the Chinese Embassy in Lagos in August 2026 sought international partnerships for training, equipment and technical support, reflecting his view that securing Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial nerve centre requires strategic partnerships extending beyond the traditional donor ecosystem.
Yet, statistics will tell only a part of the story. The other part of the story is that of a man who has managed to build considerable corporate and institutional influence while retaining a personal investment in people, particularly young people. His philosophy of mentorship, preventive security and community engagement reflects a belief that safer societies are built not only by policing crime after it occurs, but by strengthening the people and institutions that can prevent it.
That is why the description “Security General” speaks to a civilian who has made security a recurring theme of his public life and who has deployed enterprise, relationships, advocacy and institutional leadership towards the protection of lives and livelihoods.
At 50, Dr. Ogunsan’s life is valued for excellence and integrity which is defined by unflagging service.
