Good times are in the making for the royal man of Ondo State, Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan. He is to be celebrated with double honours tomorrow in his palace as he clocks 10 years on the throne of his forefathers, and equally appointed the Chairman of Ondo State Council of Traditional Rulers, courtesy of the Executive Governor of the State, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, SAN. Aside from never missing a chance to emphasise the centrality of the Ilaje people in Yoruba history, Obat, as the flamboyant monarch is fondly called, is always doing one thing or the other to give his people a new lease of life.
In his 10 years on the throne, communal crises that insistently rocked the town for generations have been settled amicably, while free welfare initiatives always spring up from the Oba’s palace almost every month, just as he makes sure everyone in the town is educated and well-fed. The event comes up on Sunday, November 10, and the Ugboland has been transformed into a beehive of activities.
Eminent personalities in the oil and gas industry have already signified their intention to grace the occasion, just as prominent royal fathers will not be left out either. With the wealth at his disposal, Obat is acclaimed as the richest king in Nigeria, and he is not going to spare any cost to make the day memorable for himself and his family.
