CMS GRAMMAR SCHOOL FETES 160TH ANNIVERSARY

-AS UKADIKE OKECHUKWU WINS HIGHEST AWARD PRIZES
For a school with a rich history and tradition as the first secondary school in Nigeria that CMS Grammar School is, celebration will always be in order for its students – old and new. Now in its 160th year, the school celebrated its anniversary on a big note. This was marked alongside its annual prize giving day. The well-attended event had many stakeholders, past students, current students, their parents, guardians and well wishers in attendance.
At the event, one of the just graduated students did the amazing by carting away 11 awards in total, which culminated in him winning the giant trophy. The boy, Ukadike Joseph Okechukwu was showered encomium by everyone gathered. He ascribed his success to the tutelage he has received in the school. He also stated ‘I have a first class in mechatronics in my school, Afe Babalola University.’
Accompanied by his mum Mrs Stella Ukadike who thanked God on behalf of his son also advised parents ‘to keep monitoring and know about the wellbeing of their children even if they are in boarding schools or university and also pray for the children.’
The mother of the best student equally admiited that education is on decline stating ‘my son has completed his first year in a private university while his colleagues who opted for federal university have not finished first semester. She advised that government should increase funding to education and no more strikes.
An old boy of the school, Mr Lekan Ogunbanwo, former Permanent Secretary of Lagos Television was full of praises for his alma mater. He said ‘This school will keep soaring high while the boys will keep the flag flying. This is a school that blazes the trail, no matter what other schools claim to be good, CMS Grammar School is the school to beat. I see myself as part of the heritage and culture of giving back to the society which the school has inculcated in us through our school anthem and other school activities.
