A reputable Christian leader today calmed the fears of fellow Christian leaders and faithfuls about the candidacy of All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu saying that he did exceedingly well for the Christian Church as a Governor between 1999-2007 than many imagined, Trek Africa Newspaper reports.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 12-year stewardship report of Senator Oluremi Tinubu delivered to the good people of Lagos Central Senatorial District, the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Lagos state and Methodist Bishop of Ikeja, Revd. Stephen Adegbite gave this assurance.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu humbly greets the clergymen during the 12-year stewardship report of Senator Oluremi Tinubu held at Eko hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos
Reeling out the specific achievements of the Governorship tenure of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Christians in Lagos, Revd. Adegbite said: ‘I have known Asiwaju for 23 years, he has done more for the church than many Christians. Asiwaju gave land to Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to build secretariat not in Agege, Ikorodu, Epe, or Badagry but in Ikeja. Asiwaju supported people on pilgrimage – Muslims and Christians. It was Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that returned schools to missionaries in 2000. Asiwaju has not done evil to Lagos. Asiwaju has not done evil to the southwest. We will support him, we will pray for him.’
Vowing his unflinching support, Revd. Adegbite told Trek Africa Newspaper, ‘I will say to people. If I don’t support and vote Asiwaju God will punish me. I belong to the board of NCPC and I am going to the Holy Land to pray for him, God will spare his life, he is not going to die, he will live and God will grant him victory. We will support him, we will pray for him. It is going to be well with him. No shaking. Shalom!’

In her reaction to the words of the clergyman, Senator Oluremi Shade Tinubu, OON remarked: ‘People can be ambitious and say that they don’t know you anymore. You know the love you have shown them but if they don’t reciprocate, we are fine. But if somebody say that, it is good. He is a man of truth in his spiritual garment and in his position of authority in the church.’
‘These are the people we have been together for 20 years, they can’t say we have not been consistent. People can have their opinion, we don’t have power over that. We owe nobody any grudge.’
‘Everything is in the hand of God. We are here today because God allowed it and if God allowed it to the finish line, glory be to God’, Sen. Tinubu concluded.
