It would be noted that law enforcement agencies were saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that citizens do not move about except those who are on essential duties. They are, however, to do this with every sense of decency and humanity as the Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu urged them to show high professionalism in dealing with erring persons, cautioning that high-handedness may lead to violation of human rights of residents.
After going round the boundaries between Lagos and Ogun states and around major streets in Lagos, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Hakeem Odumosu psc is satisfied with the level of compliance so far and appreciate the good people of Lagos for their patriotism in obeying the safety regulations put in place by the government. He reiterated that officers must be professional, and to ‘carry out their assignment with compassion and respect for the rights of citizens.’ He concluded: ‘Together we will stop the spread of COVID-19’.

On his part, the Commander of Rapid Response Squad, Lagos, DCP Olatunji Disu disclosed that he has observed high compliance of people having gone to Ketu, Ikorodu, the Island, and some other parts of the city and have seen that people are sitting in their houses. ‘The only issue we have’, he said, ‘are the youths who have taken over the roads to play football. He continued: ‘in a number of places we were able to stop and address them on the importance of staying indoors, how the virus spreads and they were very happy and left peacefully seeing the way we addressed them. Our patrol van is filled with used tyres that we removed on the streets.’
It is believed that the restrictions orders if adhered to by all and sundry will greatly aid the containment of the deadly disease as quickly as possible.
