Lagos stood still on Saturday, August 22, 2026, as political heavyweights, governors, business leaders, statesmen, traditional rulers and other distinguished personalities gathered to celebrate the wedding of Shekina Chidinma Umahi and Shope Alexandra Ayinde.

The couple exchanged marital vows at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) Powerlink Chapel, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, in a ceremony that brought together prominent Nigerians from across the country.

Shekina, a niece of the Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, is the daughter of Maj. Gen. (Rtd.) Pastor Obi Abel Umahi, DSc, OFR, while Shope is the son of Commodore NN (Rtd.) Deacon Adebayo Abidemi Ayinde.

Governor Otti, who chaired the occasion, described marriage as a lifelong commitment and charged the newlyweds to build their union on patience, understanding and tolerance.

Speaking humorously about the permanence of marriage, Otti told the couple: “I want to tell you in advance that I won’t be present and as such, I declare that this marriage is indissoluble.”
