2019 Election: Get commitment from Buhari before supporting his re-election, Southwest leaders tell Tinubu
President Buhari with Asiwaju Bola Tinubu

The National Leader of All Progressives Congress (APC) Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has been advised to reach a concrete agreement with President Muhammadu Buhari before supporting his re-election bid next year.

In a separate interview with Trek Africa, they urged Tinubu not to give Buhari support without negotiating what Yoruba nation stands to benefit in his regime and when he wants to hand over power in 2023 if he wins the next year’s general election.

The President of Yoruba Council of Youths Worldwide (YCYW), Aremo Oladotun Hassan told Nigerian NewsDirect in an exclusive interview that Tinubu should look before he leaps this time round.

Hassan said the Jagaban of Borgu should seek Buhari to host a joint National Peace Assembly wherein various issues of mutual interests on state of the nation shall be exclusively managed and dispassionately analyzed and disected viz: freedom of the press, insecurity, economic recovery and growth, restructuring agenda pursuits and devolution of powers as promised prior before elections to mention a few, in order to grow the dying love Nigerians had for him

“Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is a brand that must not be soiled on the altar of mediocrity and political impunity, which could be reduced to stranded train nor stagnated sacrifice for atonement of sins of the present administration alone, but a virtuous pursuit of excellent succinct service and delivery of dividends of democracy”

He added that the leadership of the Council finds very unappreciative and a huge embarrassing scornful irritating tendencies, displayed by President Buhari during the 2015 swearing in speech at ‘Eagles Square’, which proves  in the full glad of arrogance to the whole world that “He is for nobody and for everybody”:

“Too many right thinking Nigerians and political  observers know clearly that it was more targeted at our own big masquerade: Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other co-beneficiaries and merging parties big wigs: New PDP and some other whose interests were not factored to be on the sailing ship of power, most of them were thrown out of power house like the biblical “Jonah” with disdain from the party hierarchies and discordant lieutenants: BRF, Akeredolu, Fayemi to mention a few all categorised as the most powerful “Abuja Boys” all of whom he (Tinubu) constructively built from nowhere into great political players in the polity, but regrettably betrayed him”.

He went further “One cannot overemphasize the high level of complicity decisions and biased motives of the Buhari’s inner kitchen cabinet: Maman Daura: close cousin of the President, alongside Abba Kyari and other unidentified forces controlling the Presidency sized up and siege Presidential powers for almost 3 years till date, only to find it worthy to reinstate Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu into their folds when they noticed he still has the massive enormous clout to deliver not just Southwest but to serve a servant peace maker as chairman, APC reconciliation committee, this we see to be a huge slap on face of ardent followers of democratic ethos and respect”.

The group has called for another second “Yoruba Summit” before 2019 elections wherein all Royal Fathers and renowned stakeholders will be in attendance to cross fertilize on fundamental way forward on the weakened structures of the nation because the Southwest which is the biological home base of Asiwaju is more gruesomely divided across different political border lines of hatred and lack of patriotism, predicated on disunity among our politicians.

Another APC stalwart in Lagos who does not want his name in print also urged Tinubu to cross all the ‘Ts’ and dot all the ‘Is’ so that the embarrassment he was subjected to in the last three years of Buhari’s administration will not repeat itself.

“Asiwaju needs to know that any embarrassment to him is an embarrassment to the Yoruba nation because he is our leader and we can’t allow some betrayers in our midst to collude with strangers to rubbish him” he said.

In a similar vein, the Publicity Secretary of Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin said he didn’t expect Tinubu to support Buhari unconditionally.

“I know Tinubu very well. I don’t think he will give his support for nothing. It is those who don’t know how he operates that would think he is giving unconditional support to Buhari. He often says power is not served a la carte .He is not a good Samaritan who will throw his support for nothing” Odumakin said.

“His own idea of what he gets may only be different from what you are thinking he should be asking for. And those he is dealing with don’t pay twice for one service and they are never beholden to anyone ” Odumakin added.

However, a former member of House of Representatives from Ogun State , Hon Tunde Abudu-Balogun said such commitment is not necessary as it does not work in politics.

“Does such commitment work in politics at the end of the day? Even if you get it, (commitment) how do you enforce it if there is a renege? Abudu Balogun asked

“I think we should rather look at integrity and fairness as our bedrock” Balogun, who is a close ally of Tinubu said.
