Zambian Defence Attaché Accredited To Gambia Pays Farewell Courtesy Call On Chief of Defence Staff, GAF

The Zambian Defence Attaché to Ghana, accredited to The Gambia, Brigadier General Derek Mbolela Mwendaofyo, on Monday, 19 January 2026, paid a farewell courtesy call on the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) of The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF), Lieutenant General Mamat O.A. Cham, at his office at the Defence Headquarters in Banjul.
The visit marked the conclusion of Brigadier General Mwendaofyo’s tour of duty, as he is scheduled to return to Zambia in February 2026, following the successful completion of his assignment.

Welcoming the outgoing Defence Attaché, Lieutenant General Cham expressed appreciation for the courtesy call and congratulated Brigadier General Mwendaofyo on the successful completion of his tenure. The CDS commended him for his contributions to strengthening defence and military relations during his period of accreditation and wished him continued success in his future endeavours.
Lieutenant General Cham further underscored the GAF’s interest in deepening bilateral cooperation with the Zambian Armed Forces, particularly in the field of agriculture, citing Zambia’s notable achievements in that sector. He emphasized the importance of exploring the establishment of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) framework to formalize and sustain such collaboration for mutual benefit.
In his remarks, Brigadier General Mwendaofyo expressed his profound gratitude for the cooperation, professionalism, and support extended to him by the GAF High Command throughout his tenure. He also conveyed his sincere appreciation to the Government and people of The Gambia, and extended special thanks to His Excellency, the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Adama Barrow, through the Chief of Defence Staff.
