AKANDE: HURRAY AS LAST STANDING MAN OF PROGRESSIVES’ CLOCKS 85 – FASANMI

The longest serving Personal Assistant to late Sen Ayo Fasanmi, Pastor Adebayo Temitope, has described the Celebrant Chief Bisi Akande as a last standing man in progressive family. He made the statement in his congratulatory message to the former Governor of Osun State and first interim chairman APC on the occasion of his 85th Birthday Anniversary.

Adebayo Temitope described the Celebrant as lucky man and a special made by God. He said Baba Akande achieved what the past progressive Leaders like Papa Awolowo, Pa, Adekule Ajasin, Senator Abraham Adesanya, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, Chief Bola Ige struggled to achieve for Yoruba Nation but they couldn’t. Baba Akande achieved it by ensuring and witnessing a core progressive man, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, being voted to lead the center government.
We thank God for having Baba Bisi Akande, a principle man, who is full of progressive ideologies

Wherever Baba has opportunity to serve, he always made history. As Executive Governor of Osun, Baba built the state secretariat called Bola Ige House that has been enjoying by every administration in osun state. As a first interim APC National Chairman, Baba formed a strong Opposition Party and dethroned the Ruling Government. Any time Baba Akande and my late Boss, Senator Ayo Fasanmi, met each other, they always discussed about long prophetic vision that a day will come when a man, core Progressive will rule this Country. It is unfortunate that Senator Ayo Fasanmi, who Chief Bisi Akande, always referred to as his Political God father, had gone to the glory beyond, three years ago, when fulfillment of the vision came into being. That is why Chief Bisi Akande started calling himself a Political Orphan when Senator Ayo Fasanmi passed on. It’s my joy that, chief Bisi Akande has gotten good reports to deliver to the Past Leaders when they meet in heaven

I pray for the grace of God upon your life Sir, to enjoy His goodness on your service to God and humanity. The statement concluded.

Olurode extols Akande’s ethical assets at 85

A former National Commissioner with the independent national electoral commission and a retired professor of Sociology at the university of Lagos, Prof. Lai Olurode has paid tributes to Chief Bisi Akande as he turns 85 today. In a statement issued today, Professor Olurode mentioned that Chief Bisi Akande belonged to the Chief Obafemi Awolowo political school of thought with the core values of being blunt and uncompromising. This school of thought is not after power or political office for personal aggrandisement or power for its own sake. Power is only pursued as long as it can serve the purpose of alleviating human sufferings. Olurode also remarked that central to the political philosophy of the school is that education is a social good to which all must have access to regardless of placement within the social structure. According to him ‘health, shelter, rural development and provision of employment opportunities deserve utmost attention if governance is to be purposive and responsible.’

A third element which Olurode alluded to was a disdain for flamboyance and political jamboree. In his elaboration, Olurode said as follows ‘for Awolowo political school of thought, political campaigns shouldn’t be driven by money but by the efficacy and sophistication of policies and ideas placed before the electorates. The school of thought believes strongly that in the market of political goods, it would corner the most market if not all except it is cheated by corrupt people.

And when Chief Bisi Akande had the opportunity to serve as first, Secretary to the government of old Oyo state under Chief Bola and later as the deputy governor, he was guided by those political ethics which gave more attention to governance and substantive issues in place of the type of cars that officials of the state ride in.
When he was elected as the governor of Osun state in 1999, this ethical approach to governance blossomed. Akande, in the course of the political campaign for election as governor didn’t spend up to two hundred thousand naira. He drastically cut down on the cost of governance. For him, the office of the first lady had no place in Nigeria’s and he didn’t allow this constitutional aberration. No wonder, Akande, in just four years as the governor of Osun state built a colossal state secretariat which eradicated the practice of hiring apartments all over the state to accommodate government officials. During the commissioning of the architectural masterpiece, the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, marvelled as to how Akande was able to achieve the feat without borrowing. Had Akande been desperate for political office, he would have secured a ministerial post under President Muhammadu Buhari for free.’
According to Olurode, ‘Akande is loyal to his political associates. Through thick and thin, and even after the death of Bola Ige, his loyalty to him didn’t whither. And throughout the hectic and marathon campaign travels and travails of the then Senator Bola Tinubu, Bisi Akande, in spite of advanced age, stood by him. This man is an exceptional politician, indeed, out of the run of the mill. He deserves all the encomiums in a country where politics isn’t really about principle and service but centres around a rapacious money culture’.

I, Chief Barr Okonkwo Oliver, Interim State Youth Leader, APC, Anambra State. Lead Partner Okonkwo, Mokwe & Partners, hail the duo on these occasions of their Birthdays. Celebrations will not seize in our lives. Congratulations!

Warmest birthday wishes to Chief Bisi Akande, a true statesman and elder, as he celebrates 85 remarkable years! Your wisdom and dedication to public service have left an indelible mark on our nation.
