The importance of security to the peace and progress of Nigeria was reiterated by HRH Hon. Igwe Ama Kelvin Etonihu, a leading Igbo traditional ruler based in Lagos. He disclosed this fact with Oki Samson of Trek Africa Newspaper on the sidelines of the ‘The DOABLE Critical Stakeholders Canvass’ Tagged: ‘Towards the Imo of our collective dreams’ which was held in Lagos last Sunday ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The Oputa Obie noted on the state of security in Nigeria: ‘I am a peacemaker in our dear nation Nigeria. I am a voice for the youths. I have done everything in my power for my community and my nation. During the Endsars period, I made a press statement on the security situation. What I want to tell our leaders is for us to come together and see how we can restore peace and security in Southeast and our nation Nigeria.’
‘A state or country without security cannot go anywhere. I recall some foreign investors that I brought to Nigeria to come and invest, they are afraid and some of them even left because coming here and seeing what is happening, even me I cannot see what is happening and want to invest. So we need to look backward and see what is wrong, let us make amends so that we can as a government see how we can protect our people. When there is security, investments will come. No nation without investment can grow.’

On Imo politics, HRH Igwe Kelvin said: ‘The current issues in Imo state is depressing for a state that is the most peaceful in Nigeria. Poly Ezumoha, the chairman of The Doable Team, came to me and told me he wants to run for governorship and I think that is good. With the way he has worked, I am convinced he has good plans for Imo. But you know a lot of people have said this in the past but I want to believe that all he has told us today he will keep to his word.’
He advised youths to still have hope in the nation, ‘I will advise youths that they should not take laws into their hands. Some of us are speaking, we are not keeping quiet. Some of them are carrying arms because they feel that there is no hope for them but I want to reassure them that there is hope – the hope is that we will transform Nigeria’, he concluded.
