The General Officer Commanding, 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj. Gen. UT Musa has hailed the special valedictory occasion initiated by the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya as a great way to honour retirees of Nigerian Army. It is also a way to offer motivation to soldiers who are still in active service. He made this known at a special valedictory buffet luncheon which held last weekend at Command Day Secondary School Hall, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ikeja, Lagos.

The GOC 81 Division, Maj. Gen. UT Musa said: ‘This is the brainchild of our Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya who decided that all officers of the Nigerian Army must be sent forth formally to recognize and appreciate their service rendered to the Nigerian Army and the nation at large. So last December, a dinner was organized for retiring officers from the rank of Brigadiers and Major Generals. This dinner was specially organized to recognize the people that served this country honorably and thereafter, all retiring officers will be recognized through a buffet luncheon and testimonial dinner.’

‘We want to say thank you to him for deeming it fit to honor us. You are telling all of us coming behind that retirement is something that is important in life and I pray that we would retire with our neck on our head. I know a lot of our colleagues who joined the Service over 35 years ago but are no more’, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP report.

Addressing the retirees, Maj. Gen. UT Musa said: ‘We should be grateful to God no matter how badly your shape may look, it is still better. The healthcare facilities of Nigerian Army are open to you. It is really free. Being a retiree, there is a program for them. They are part of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). The facility they have been enjoying before, they will continue to enjoy it.’
