• Insists ‘criminals are not spirits’ as he makes clarion call for local intelligence
‘Each time I flip through the screaming headlines in our dailies on how criminals outwit our security operatives, it worries me. The reason is simple: these are people who have no known technical training in their criminality; they are crude and casual; so how come they always outwit our trained security personnel and operate undetected?’ were the words of astute supernumerary police officer and security professional, Matthew Ibadin at the graduation ceremony of the Institute of Security Nigeria, University of Lagos (UNILAG) where he graduated from a course and was also inducted a fellow of the Institute.
The Head of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Victoria Island shared: ‘As an individual who had painstakingly gone through all fabrics of security trainings, I am of the opinion that we can comfortably outwit these criminals and beat them to their games. And this is simply by making ample application of local intelligence.
Criminals are not spirits. Criminals are human beings and they live with us in our communities and they have friends too; so tell me, if your friends who have no visible means of livelihood suddenly begin to live ostentatious life, won’t your instinct tell you that they may be in for some uneconomic activities? As a law abiding citizen, what you do is begin to monitor them and report to the relevant security agency. That is local intelligence at play.’
‘I am happy the present leadership of the Nigeria Police is extensively looking into community policing model as a veritable means of tackling insecurity. With a better application of local intelligence, the war against Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East would be a thing of the past.’
The graduate of Political Science from the same institution of learning, UNILAG remarked: ‘UNILAG made me what I am today. I passed through the school. I owe the school. I am an ambassador of the school. I say thanks to UNILAG for the impact in my life. With my present education from the Institute of Security Nigeria, I am much more positioned to galvanize all that had been garnered for the betterment of the PCRC Victoria Island, various organizations under my watch and of course, Nigeria in general.’
The thoroughbred security professional, Matthew Ibadin among other security certifications holds an Advanced Diploma in Strategic Security and Infrastructure Protection from the Institute of Security Nigeria; Certified Protection Officer from School of Management and Security, and Supernumerary Training from Police Training College Ikeja. He is a member of Association of Industrial Security and Safety Operators of Nigeria (AISSON); International Foundation for Protection Officer (IFPO), and America Society of Picture Professional (ASPP).
To buttress his passion for good security, he was awarded a fellowship award from the Institute of Security Nigeria by the prestigious University of Lagos (UNILAG) alongside AIG of Zone II, AIG Ahmed Iliyasu; CP Hakeem Odumosu, DCP Ebunoluwa Rotimi Adelesi, and HRM Oba Semiudeen Orimadegun Kasali.
