Rivers Youths Call On INEC To Disqualify Peter Obi Over Calls For Tinubu To Resign

A prominent Rivers State youth group has demanded the immediate disqualification of the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over his recent comments urging President Bola Tinubu to resign.
The group, under the leadership of Comrade Nwabueze Clifford, made the call during a well-attended stakeholder forum held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday.
Addressing journalists after the forum, Comrade Clifford described Peter Obi’s remarks as “reckless, divisive, and a clear threat to national stability.” He argued that such statements from a major opposition figure undermine the democratic process and amount to incitement.
“We cannot sit back and allow individuals who lack respect for the office of the President to continue parading themselves as statesmen,” Clifford said. “Peter Obi should be disqualified by INEC from any future electoral contest. His conduct is unbecoming of a leader who intends to govern this country.”
The youth leader further claimed that Obi’s comments were part of a wider plot to destabilize the current administration and create unnecessary tension across the nation.
The forum, which drew participants from various youth organizations, ethnic groups, and political stakeholders in Rivers State, passed a resolution urging INEC to review Obi’s eligibility and take decisive action to protect the sanctity of Nigeria’s electoral system.
This latest development adds to the growing political tension ahead of future election cycles, with observers warning that such calls could further polarize the already charged political atmosphere in the country.
