According to Punch, The Police Service Commission has supported the Inspector-General of Police’s directive urging officers aged 60 or those with 35 years in service to tender voluntary retirement letters.

The directive highlights that officers violating the Public Service Rule, which stipulates a retirement age of 60 or after 35 years of service, are in breach.

The memo from the IG emphasized the need for affected officers to comply with the established retirement regulations, stressing that any actions taken by these officers after reaching the retirement criteria are considered null and void.

The PSC’s spokesperson, Ikechukwu Ani, confirmed the directive’s legitimacy, underscoring that retirement at 60 years or after 35 years of service is a standard rule in the public service.

Ani emphasized that non-compliance would lead to consequences, as it is against the established Public Service Rule.

Contradicting this directive, the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, denied knowledge of the order from the IGP.

He suggested contacting the Police Service Commission for clarification, stating that the directive did not come from the IG’s office.
