President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has responded to the helicopter crash in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, by directing the military and relevant agencies to ramp up their rescue operations at the crash site.

The incident occurred Thursday morning when a chartered helicopter, marked 5NBQG and operated by Eastwind Aviation Logistics Services Limited, went down while transporting senior officials from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL). The helicopter had taken off from the Port Harcourt Military Base (DNPM) and was en route to the NUIM ANTAN oil rig near Bonny Finima, tragically crashing about one kilometer from its destination around 11:30 a.m.

In response to the situation, President Tinubu issued a directive last night to accelerate the search and rescue efforts, emphasizing the need for swift recovery of any survivors and effective management of the aftermath.

A statement from presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga noted, “President Tinubu urges military personnel involved in operations in the area to join the rescue mission and provide all necessary support to the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant agencies.

“The President extends his condolences to the Board and staff of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) and the families of those confirmed to have lost their lives in the accident. He fervently prays that the Almighty God grants eternal rest to the three departed souls and comforts their families.
