“Politics Is Not Do-or-Die, Admit Tinubu Has Done Well” – Wike Tells Opposition

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday challenged opposition parties to acknowledge what he described as President Bola Tinubu’s achievements, warning against politics driven by a desperate quest for power.
Wike made the remarks during his monthly media chat in Abuja, where he cautioned opposition politicians against turning political competition into a do-or-die affair.
The minister accused opposition parties of refusing to recognise the president’s performance because of their desire to take over power from the ruling party.
According to Wike, political differences should not prevent parties from acknowledging developments they believe could benefit the country.
“The time has come when, just because you are in the opposition party, you say the man who is in charge of the affairs of the country has done nothing simply because you are in opposition. That is not fair,” he said.
Wike maintained that politics should not be treated as a do-or-die affair, stressing that opposition parties should be willing to acknowledge the government’s achievements where necessary.
“For us, we think the president has done well; it’s just that the opposition wants to take over power,” he said.
He argued that opposition parties often dismiss the ruling party’s performance because they are focused on gaining political control, regardless of whether the government has achieved anything that deserves recognition.
Wike also expressed concern over what he described as the opposition’s failure to tell Nigerians the truth about developments in the country.
He urged politicians across party lines to speak honestly about national issues and acknowledge initiatives they believe would benefit the country, irrespective of their political affiliations.
“Let those of us in other political parties say, ‘No, this is not the truth; this is what is happening and that is what is going on.’
“When you see something that will help your country, come out and say it. It doesn’t matter if you are in opposition or not,” the minister added.
