The Deputy Governor’s Office in Edo State, situated on Osadebe Avenue in Benin, has been cordoned off by a significant police presence, sparking concern amidst the state’s ongoing political tensions.

On Sunday, a formidable contingent of police officers was visible at the premises, backed by a police truck equipped with a mounted machine gun.

Trek Africa Newspaper reports that three officers were stationed at the entrance, presenting a formidable scene.

The relocation of this office, previously housed in the Government House, stemmed from a significant confrontation between Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

As of the latest observations on Sunday, the entrance gate to the office remained shut, signaling a complete restriction on access.

Reports have surfaced indicating that employees of the deputy governor’s office received instructions on Friday to instead report to the John Odigie Oyegun Public Service Agency.

Moreover, official vehicles belonging to the deputy governor’s office, including the Press Crew bus, were relocated to the office of the Head of Service situated within the Government House.

A staff member from the Deputy Governor’s office revealed to Punch on Sunday, “We are civil servants. We were directed on Thursday to resume duties at JOOPSA, where we reported on Friday and will continue to do so tomorrow (Monday).”
