Police Officers Laud Gov. Sanwo-Olu as Free Eye Test, Glasses Initiative Ends at Zone 2 Command…

Police officers at the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command have expressed appreciation to Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Governor of Lagos State, as the police free eye test and medical outreach organised by the state government concluded, providing vision care, medical checks and free glasses to over 1,000 officers and personnel.

The initiative, which took place at the Nigeria Police Force Zone 2 Command headquarters, offered comprehensive eye examinations, free prescription glasses and other vital medical tests to officers serving in the command.

Speaking with journalists during the closing phase of the programme, the outgoing Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2, DIG Adegoke Fayoade, expressed excitement and gratitude to the Lagos State Government for prioritising the health of police officers.

According to him, the intervention came as a welcome surprise after discussions with the Senior Special Assistant to the governor on Transport and Logistics, Hassan Adekoya, only a few days before the programme commenced.

“I’m excited and very happy because I never knew this could happen so quickly. I discussed the project with the governor’s SSA on transport about three or four days ago, and he said he would inform the governor. The governor approved it immediately,” Fayoade said.

He noted that the outreach had already benefitted more than 1,000 officers and personnel through free medical tests, eye care services and distribution of prescription glasses.

The senior police officer emphasised that good health is essential for effective policing, stressing that such support would enhance officers’ performance in the discharge of their duties.

“Our job is very tasking. When we receive facilities like this from time to time, it goes a long way in improving our performance. You can see from the reaction of my officers that they are very happy,” he added.

Fayoade also thanked the governor for what he described as a thoughtful gesture towards the welfare of officers who work daily to ensure public safety.

He further commended Adekoya for facilitating the initiative, noting that the programme had earlier been extended to the Lagos State Police Command before being brought to the Zone 2 Command.

“I sincerely thank the governor for caring so much about the health of police officers. We are most grateful to the SSA who brought this opportunity to us,” he said.

In his remarks, Adekoya explained that the initiative was designed to improve the well-being of police officers, stressing that security personnel must be healthy to effectively safeguard society.

He added that the Lagos State Government recognises that security and prosperity go hand in hand.

“When there is security, there is prosperity. That is why the well-being of our police officers is very important,” Adekoya said.

The governor’s aide also disclosed that the programme would continue with another phase targeting commercial drivers and transport workers across Lagos State.

According to him, the next phase will extend free eye tests and medical support to drivers as part of broader efforts to improve public health and road safety across the state.
