Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olalekan Balogun

There was pandemonium at the palace of Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Olalekan Balogun, on Monday, following the decision of the monarch chiefs to confer the title of Mogaji and Baale on some royal family members.

The decision was greeted with protest on the grounds that the nominees were not screened and they are not entitled to be honored with mogaji and baale of the selected royal houses.

The family members who had expressed their grievances to the Monarch Council (Olubadan in council) through a petition were surprised to see their case not treated by the Council.

According to one of the family elders who spoke under the condition of anonymity, It was brought to their knowledge when they contacted Olubadan that the petition was not brought to the attention of the Monarch Council.

The source indicted the Monarch’s personal assistant, Rufai Hakeem Adewale and a High Chief who is the 4th in line to the Monarch, (Ekerin Olubadan) Amidu Ajibade of compromise.

Also, another protesting ruling house accused the Ekerin Olubadan whom they said when contacted to express their displeasure after their petition was not treated assured them of justice but still went ahead to support the candidacy of the person they protested against.

They explained further that the family was not carried along as expected by custom to present a nominee but went ahead to enforce unknown persons on them.

Reacting and in order to give justice to the aggrieved ruling house, the Olubadan ordered the process to be put on hold and a committee should be set up to resolve the crisis.
