The General Manager of the LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba has described Lagos Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA),
the traffic agency which he leads, as a child of necessity to make traffic flow easy in Lagos. He made this known when he received the Postgraduate Students of School of Transportation, Lagos State University (LASU) at the agency’s Headquarters in Oshodi, Lagos.

The General Manager Oreagba disclosed that LASTMA was a child of necessity as of the time it was established on the 15th of July, 2000 by the then Governor Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He furthered that the Agency was established mainly to transform the State transportation system in order to ensure free flow of traffic and also reduce accidents.

On new developments in LASTMA operations, National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP  gathered in the press statement e-signed and released by the Head, Public Affairs Unit
LASTMA, Adebayo Taofiq that the deployment of Traffic Management Solution (TMS) handheld devices and body-worn cameras to capture real-time picture evidence of traffic violators has improved traffic management and control across Lagos. Oreagba added: ‘The operations of LASTMA are governed with three ‘E’s ‘Traffic Engineering’, ‘Traffic Enlightenment and Education’ and ‘Traffic Enforcement’.

He enjoined the students to be a good ambassador of their respective family and shun all social vices that could derail them from concentrating on their education. ‘Let me commend Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his huge investment in constant training and retraining of LASTMA personnel which has brought better performances and delivery’.

The General Manager assured the students that the rail project along Badagry axis which will serve as an alternative to road transportation would commence operations very soon.

In his response, Master Jide Adeleye who spoke on behalf of the students commended operatives of LASTMA for their prompt and effective management of traffic across the State. He called on the government to provide more security for LASTMA officers as against incessant attacks by motorists particularly commercial bus drivers.
