It is been a long wait for family, friends, and associates of the fine, crime-busting, police officer CP Olatunji Disu to see him attain the new, enviable rank of Commissioner of Police in the Nigeria Police.
They could not hide their joys and were full of thanksgiving to the Almighty God when the consistently productive officer was finally promoted to the new rank in April 2023. Trek Africa Newspaper can report that this is why they gathered in high praises and jubilation to hold a special reception party in honour of CP Disu who they fondly call ‘ADC Shadow’ in Lagos on Saturday 29th April 2023.

Dignitaries present at the reception party include former Commissioner of Police in Lagos, AIG Hakeem Olusegun Odumosu (retd); Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan; the wife of the CP, Mrs. Funmilola Disu; a member of his family, Princess Bolanle Kazeem; popular media professional, Dr. Sulaiman Aledeh; Host of the Reception and the convener of Culturati festival, Hon. Idris Aregbe.
Others are the Vice Chairman of Agege LGA, Hon. Gbenga Abiola; former Executive Chairman of Amuwo Odofin LGA, Hon. Ayodele Adewale; former Chief Security Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Peter Okoloh; young Ogun politician, Hon. Remi Durojaiye; former Lagos State House of Assembly Member, Hon. Segun Olulade; ex-Super Eagles footballer, Obafemi Martins; popular musician, Korede Bello; Hon. Abdulmumuni Abiola; Mr. Kunle Kazeem, Mr. Ali Hassan, among others. Police officers were also in attendance including ACP Mukhtar, CSP Akinwunmi Oke and others.

The former Commissioner of Police in Lagos, AIG Hakeem Odumosu (retd) whom CP Disu had worked with at many times was present at the reception. Lauding the hard-fighter, police cop Tunji Disu, he said: ‘We have been together for a long time from one duty post to another in the course of career in the Police. I pray for him that as I have been through things and I saw and I am thanking God that I came out of the job after 30 years that God will make his own better than mine. You will get to higher rank than my own so that we will continue to celebrate you.’
‘I thank God for the life of the father, mother, and the wife I use to call her ‘embryo’, it is not easy to marry a police officer. Thank you very much for keeping the homefront because if the homefront is not good, the outer will not be successful. God Almighty will continue to keep your family together. Congratulations to CP Tunji, I wish you more ranks to your shoulders.’

The Board Member of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund (LSSTF), Dr. Ayo Ogunsan revealed: ‘CP Tunji Disu is one of the finest and highly cerebral police officers I have ever met in Nigeria Police. He is my egbon. As a bloody civilian, I am fortunate to be under the tutelage of AIG Hakeem Odumosu where I met CP Tunji Disu and developed a very close relationship with him. He operates an open door policy, you can reach him physically, online, mobile, and many people connect with him easily. When he left Lagos, he left a very big shoe.’
‘I congratulate him for attaining the lofty position of Commissioner of Police. I pray that we will celebrate him again soon on a bigger position which will be a continuous one. I am happy to be here to celebrate him. I will meet you at the top’, he told Trek Africa Newspaper.
A member of the family, Princess Bolanle Kazeem hailed the one they know as ‘Daddy Officer’ in the family. ‘Olatunji Disu is a committed and loyal member of the family. He extended it to his workplace. I will thank everyone for recognizing him as a good police officer. We are going to celebrate you soon in a big way.

The wife, Mrs. Funmilola Disu who conducted the toast told Trek Africa Newspaper, ‘I feel happy and elated for this promotion. I thank Almighty Allah for giving us this opportunity. Whenever he is transferred to various places, I don’t feel anyhow although I will miss him but I support him with prayers. I advise police officers to stay committed to their jobs and be contented with what God gives them.’
One of Disu’s university colleagues and popular media professional, Dr. Sulaiman Aledeh shared: ‘When people say they don’t like police officers, it is because they have not been close to them. Four years ago, we were together to celebrate CP Disu and I remember that so many prayers were made for him that have come true. He was DCP then. CP Disu is a friend of many people. If you have attended his pep talks with the RRS, you will know what it means to have a civil-police relations and that is something that everyone who know him will attest to.’
‘Three of my classmates from UNIBEN have become police officers. Policing has changed and CP Disu is enhancing it. He is telling a better narrative. He is the Future of Police. We are praying that the best will come to him. God will continue to strengthen him. He is a judoka who is flying the flag of Nigeria. We ask that you will continue’, Trek Africa Newspaper gathered.

Hon. Aregbe Idris who organized the special reception party for CP Disu alongside other friends noted about the police officer, ‘This is a man who believes in the community and he is doing his job in the right way. He is telling the right story about the Police with his lifestyle. He is a go-getter and doesn’t go outside of the law.’
The convener of Sisi Oge and Culturati festivals, Aregbe added: ‘I want to tell other officers that there is life outside of the Police so you have to do things right, don’t support crime, and don’t go outside of the law. As citizens, we need to allow the Police do their job and support them.’
Journalists who cover the security beat and have had longstanding relationship with the man also had brief moments to share their experience with him. Mrs. Precious from The Nation newspaper said: ‘He is a very distinguished officer. There is no time that I have called him that there is something is happening in my area that I have been disappointed. He has been largely incorruptible. He was there when his mates and even his juniors were been promoted above him. He will just tell you that the will of Allah will be done, I will not do what I am not supposed to do. I am happy that the will of Allah is done in his life.’

Mrs. Chiemelie Ezeobi from ThisDay newspaper added about the one they call Distinguished Officer, ‘We have prayed and prayed that this day will happen in his life. We thank God that it has happened. I have known him for over a decade because I cover the security beat. He is an excellent officer and he passed it to all the RRS officers. You will see the excellence in their lives as they call them the Good Guys. What God has started will continue. This will be the least.’
In his thank you remarks to everyone that gathered at the event, CP Olatunji Disu who is recognized in many theatres of operation as OC SARS Ondo-Raider, OC SARS Oyo-Spear, and OC SARS PH-Thunder shared a brief experiences on the job. ‘I want to take you into my world as a police officer. Once upon a time I was serving in Ondo state and I was traveling to Lagos. When I got to Osun state, I noticed some people waving me down and I knew something had happened. I stopped and they rushed into my car telling me that they have been robbed. I took them to Ilesha where I dropped them and asked if they want me to drop them at a police post, they said no that they are all thieves. They were very happy when I dropped them, they asked for my address and promised to come visit me in Ondo state. Then I introduced myself as a DPO working in Ondo state, till today they have not come back.’

‘When I was appointed to head the SARS in Ondo state which is the most volatile place in Nigeria Police, my wife was not happy about it and expressed to me that I should not take the job. But I told her that I won’t go out with the men but for me, it is an exciting and dangerous job. Then, there was a bank robbery in Owo on a certain day. By the time we got there, the robbers had left and we were tipped that they were on their way to Ifon where we attacked them and killed 2. We continued to pursue them to Sabongida Ora where we rounded them up. By the time my wife called me, I had forgotten my promises. She screamed that I had followed my men on the operation’, Trek Africa Newspaper gathered.
Disu who is also fondly called Adio-AD 10 remarked: ‘I am purposefully saying this so that you can enter a policeman’s world. It is a different ball game entirely. As police officers, we lie a lot and one of the common lies is when we tell our family in the morning that I will see you in the evening. It is a lie because we are not sure if we will return. For God to have kept me alive, I have been Commander SARS in many places like Ondo, Oyo, and Rivers states; Commander, Anti-kidnapping in Rivers state, and I just finished a term as the Commander of IRT. Even the job of the RRS in Lagos is not as difficult as the SARS.’

‘My world is a difficult one and a very dangerous one. For me to have the cooperation of my family, friends and members of the public is a great thing. We need the cooperation of everybody to do well as a policeman. All over the world, you police by consent, that is, you enlighten and educate before you enforce the law.
