Ogun 2019: Gbenga Daniel Directs Supporters to Vote APC’s Dapo Abiodun

Former Ogun State Governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel has thrown his weight behind the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election, directing his supporters across the state to vote for Prince Dapo Abiodun.
An impeccable source told Trek Africa Newspaper that, “Oga has just directed that we vote for Dapo Abiodun on Saturday. He believes the man is a better candidate, who can take Ogun State to greater heights, despite the fact that they are not in the same party. OGD has always wanted a good hand, who’ll not divide the state along sub-ethnic lines, and he believes Dapo Abiodun, with his private sector background is the man for the job.”
The PDP has two major factions in Ogun State, one led by Senator Buruji Kashamu, while the other is led by Hon. Ladi Adebutu. Both factions voted for the party’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, during last month’s elections. Daniel is technically the Leader of the Ladi Adebutu faction, which is recognized by the PDP national secretariat.
But the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), following a court order insisted on accepting Kashamu as the PDP flagbearer to the consternation of the party’s national secretariat.
The source said, “It will be a shame if we allow persons with questionable background to preside over our affairs in a state that produced the likes of late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Prof. Wole Soyinka and Papa Abraham Adesanya, to mention just a few. Ogun State should be seen to be moving forward, not backward.”
The support of PDP members in Saturday’s elections for Abiodun will be critical mostly in Ogun East Senatorial District, where the party is very popular. The APC defeated the PDP in Ogun East for the senatorial seat by a small margin.
