The APC Chairmanship candidate in Odi-Olowo LCDA, Hon. Seyi Jakande expressed gratitude to the residents of Odi-Olowo LCDA for turning out in large numbers to support his quest to become the next Executive Chairman of the local council. He also used the opportunity to encourage the electoral umpire, INEC and LASIEC to make the process of ongoing voters registration and transfer of PVCs easy, fast, and seamless. This is to enhance more participation in future elections, Trek Africa Newspaper can report.

Hon. Seyi Jakande made this known when he cast his vote today at his polling unit in Ward L, Ilupeju, Odi-Olowo LCDA. ‘From the reports I’ve heard so far, I don’t think there’s been so much of a delay. The LAISEC should be commended for having a very organized electoral process. The turnout is very impressive, considering that this area is the elite area of the LCDA, in which we usually recognize low turnout, voters’ apathy, and all of that, but what I’ve seen around, people are out and the voter apathy looks like it has actually disappeared. I’m very confident that I will win as the Chairman. I believe that the people’s voice is going to count.’

On improving future elections, Jakande said: ‘There’s no other message than for us to encourage people, and continue to advocate that this is actually a civic responsibility. It is a primary assignment that shows responsibility to your country. Some have registered but have not actually received their voter’s card. A lot of people were actually anticipating that there would be a fresh voter’s registration or update. A lot of people have moved from one location to the other, and expected that they should be able to effect a change. I think all of that put together contributes to the gap between the voter’s register and the actual voters.’

‘Going forward, we would just advise that the LASIEC, in collaboration with the INEC, should in the future try to update or fast-track this process, where people that have registered or relocated from one place to another, should be able to update their voter’s card, in seamless fashion and in record time, so that at every election cycle, they are able to perform their civic responsibility’, Jakande concluded.
