NSCDC SPECIAL FEMALE SQUAD VISITS LAGOS MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS AND POVERTY ALLEVIATION • Commandant Eweka harps on improved security, safety of women and children

The Special Female Squad of the Nigeria Security Civil Defence and Corps, NSCDC, Lagos State Command has paid a  familiarization visit to the Lagos State Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), at Alausa-Secretariat, Ikeja.

In a press statement e-signed and released to the National Association of Online Security News Publishers, NAOSNP by the Command’s Spokesperson, ASCI Abolurin Oluwaseun Olumide stated that, “Following, the recent charge of the Commandant General (CG), Nigeria Security And Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), CG Ahmed Abubakar Audi, PhD, mni, on the improvement of the security and safety of schools and children, across the nation, the Lagos state Commandant, Commandant of Corps (CC) Eweka Edenabu Okoro, msc, acma, cna, has also immediately, directed Tactical and Operational Commanders in the Command, to take the bull by the horn, in their bid to stamp out all forms of criminality against women and children in Lagos state.”

According to the statement, “In furtherance of the familiarization exercise, embarked upon by the Special Female Squad (SFS), of the NSCDC, Lagos State Command, to all relevant stakeholders and Government institutions, in the state, the SFS, ably, led, by its Commander, Deputy Superintendent of Corps (DSC) Agada Ada Bridget, again visited the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA), yesterday, Tuesday, 30Th August, 2022.”

Furthermore, the Command’s SFS, led by DSC Agada Ada Bridget, was well and warmly, received, by the Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. (Mrs) Cecilia Bolaji Dada, together with the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Mrs Kalesanwo Oluyemi Yewande and the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs Folashade Jaji, amidst other Directors and executives of the ministry.

DSC Agada Ada Bridget, succinctly, seized, the opportunity, to state the purpose of the establishment of the Squad, which include to provide safety and security amongst our school children and act as school safety vanguard, amidst other pressing security needs.

She also said, “the protection and safety of women and children, of all age brackets, with special consideration of their vulnerabilities, volatilities and complexities, in the society, is paramount to the Squad, in discharging their mandates effectively, in Lagos State.

“She added that the visit, was also one of the proactive and tactical measures, of the Command, to inform and assure Lagosians, of adequate security and safety, of women and children as well as all citizens of the state, more importantly, as we approach the period of electioneering campaigns, sooner, this year, prior to the forthcoming general elections, next year.

 

The Honourable Commissioner of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Hon. (Mrs) Cecilia Bolaji Dada, who received the Squad, together with the Permanent Secretary, SSG and other Directors in the Ministry, extolled the Squad, for thinking in this direction.

She further said, “the entire Corps should be commended for this wonderful initiative as her joy also knows no bounds, seeing women performing such great duties and she also urged the Squad to be up and doing, in protecting women and children in the state.

“The mandate of the Squad is a welcome development, however, the issues relating to women, such as; violence and poverty, amidst others must be taken seriously. We also wish to assure the Squad of maximum collaboration and promised to inculcate the Squad in all the ministry’s programmes.”

The Permanent Secretary (WAPA), Mrs Kalesanwo Oluyemi Yewande, who thanked, the Lagos SFS, for their proactive visit to the ministry, stated that they look forward to collaborating, with the Squad, in eradicating poverty and crimes, mostly, committed, against women and children.

Finally, Commandant Eweka harps on improved security and safety of women and children against violence, poverty, cultism, sexual and drug abuses and other untoward crimes in Lagos State. He also pledged his support, to ensure sustainable and robust synergy between the Squad and all relevant stakeholders and institutions in the state.
