“No Manhunt of any Journalist whatsoever by the Kano Police Command, please”. This was the reaction of the Nigerian Police Force to the Punch Newspapers publication of 19th, May, 2018 where the popular media company publishes that Aminu Nurudeen of Liberty Television who is said to have posted the trending IGP Idris video, is now being man hunted after refusing the police invitation to explain reason why he posted the horrible video clip.
Mugaji Musa Majia, Superintendent of Police and Kano state Police Public Relation Officer in a press statement made available to TREK AFRICA noted that “no journalist was arrested or invited by the Command for interrogation over the video clip. It is crystal clear that the Command maintain cordial relationship with the State Chapter of the N.U.J, the Correspondence Chapel and all bloggers. The Media outlets responsible for the report had their correspondents here in Kano but none consulted the Command to verify the news”.
The police statement reads in parts, “the attention of Kano State Police Command is drawn to trending headlines in some national dailies and online Media that the ’’ Police Launched prove, threaten bloggers arrest’’ over IGP’s trending video. The Command hereby debunks the news as false in its entirety and an act by mischief makers”.
The Punch publication of today Saturday has indicated that the said Liberty Television journalist “has since gone into hiding following manhunt aginst him by the police”
The Punch added that “At the event in Kano, all the journalists present were begged not to report the incident.
The IGP could not continue with the event and he was hurried away by his aides. The event was brought to an abrupt end on Monday. But to the embarrassment of the Kano Police CP, Nurudeen posted the offensive video”.
