In a bid to promote cleanliness among traders and check health and environmental hazards in the market, an NGO known as `Umuada Di-Igbo Mma’, on Friday distributed 160 pieces of aprons, at Utako Market, Abuja.
The National Coordinator of the Abuja-based organisation, Mrs Beauty Ikeaka, said that the initiative was meant
to promote a clean trading environment and encourage the market women to sustain their efforts to fend for their families.
“We are just doing this to promote cleanliness in the market.
“What we want is the happiness on the faces of the people. If you are not operating in a clean environment, people would not patronise you.”
She urged the women to participate in the voter registration and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) in order to vote for candidates of their choice in 2019.
Also speaking, the FCT chapter Chairperson, Mrs Juliet Michael, said that the gesture was intended to give the benefitting traders a decent and befitting look.
“We want the traders to change their old and unappealing appearance and look decent and attractive in the apron.”
The Chairman of Utako Market Task Force, Mr Austine Nnadi, thanked the NGO for the gesture, saying that it would contribute to the cleanliness of the market.
“The apron is an added advantage and it is a nice and encouraging initiative.
“As the management of the market, we encourage and appreciate the organisation for the gesture.
