NDE Trains 1,300 Women, Unemployed Youths In Kogi

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), in collaboration with the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Women Leader, Salamatu Umar-Eluma, gave empowerment opportunity to 1,300 unemployed youths at Anyigba in the Eastern Senatorial District of Kogi State.

The empowerment programme, which was flagged off recently at the main auditorium of the Kogi State University, Anyigba, witnessed women and youths from the nine local government areas in the eastern senatorial zone.

One hundred beneficiaries got cash of N10,000 each to enhance their various businesses while 200 women who have undergone training in the field of cosmetology, received several skills acquisition equipment to boost their vocations.

Also, certificates of attendance were issued to 1,000 beneficiaries who completed the mandatory training in entrepreneurship to enable them access low interest loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria.

In his welcome address, Kogi State Coordinator of NDE, Zakari Abubakar, said that training and disbursement of equipment/loans to women and youths is aimed at taking them out of poverty.

He described the empowerment scheme as a call to inject into the economy and produce vibrant young entrepreneurs who would be ready to create employment and wealth.

In her keynote address, Umar-Eluma said the event was a demonstration of the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to gradually and eventually eradicate poverty among the poor and vulnerable in the country.

She recalled that during the 2015 political campaign, the president on the platform of All Progressives Congress (AP) made promises to design and implement well-articulated social involvement programme, which according to her, had been achieved.

The women leader cited the Home-Grown School Feeding Programmed (HGSFP), the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT), Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP), N-Power, among others, as other programmes initiated to compliment NDE in Wealth creation.

She congratulated the recipients and urged them to make judicious use of the resources that have been made available to them.
