MATTER OF URGENT IMPORTANCE: AGEGE IS TURNING AN HOTBED AGAIN; CP ALABI, COUNCIL CHAIRMEN, PLEASE SALVAGE THE SITUATION – Abayomi Oyelami
By Trek Africa Newspaper

The spate of fighting in Agege these days has become something that calls for attention. When you seem to be catching respite, these boys again spring up. ‘Rather than it becoming calm with the witch, she is giving birth to more witch elements’ loosely says a Yoruba proverb.
The event of the past few weeks is nothing suitable. This is within the holy month of Ramadan when even the most violent and most foolhardy become sober. These ones in Agege are not so. Hoodlums have again taken up their machetes and other dangerous arms to do battle on the streets of Agege.

Today, the last day of Ramadan, around Alfa nla towards Capitol road and Oniwaya, the hoodlums have taken over. Another set are around Central Mosque, Shiaba street, Otubu bus-stop all along Ogba road.
What is this for crying out loud? You will be within the vicinity and be worried. You will be outside and receive countless phone calls telling you to stay where you are because some boys are assaulting themselves and innocent Agege residents.
L-R: Chairman, Agege Local Government, Alh. Ganiyu Egunjobi and Chairman, Orile-Agege LCDA, Hon. Johnson S. Babatunde
As a concerned citizen of Agege, I plead that the able Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Sylvester Abiodun Alabi step into Agege as a matter of urgency. Please use your good office to deploy excellent operational officers to begin round-the-clock surveillance of Agege.
I also use this opportunity to plead with the Chairmen of Agege LGA and Orile-Agege LCDA, Alh. Ganiyu Egunjobi and Hon. J. S. Babatunde to think of creative and constructive ways to bring these youths into productive endeavours. We need forward-looking programs. We need an environment which promotes productivity.
As a matter of urgent importance, Agege LGA and Orile Agege LCDA needs sanity. We require security to be able to pursue the course of prosperity. We are not all criminals, hoodlums, or Awawa boys. That you grew up or live in Agege does not confer criminality. Evil men must not continue to demarket us.
