The General Manager of Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Agency (LNSA), Prince Dr. Ifalade Oyekan has received his award of excellence accorded him by the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) recently.

The award was presented to him by Oki Samson, the President of the umbrella body of journalists and publishers reporting security, safety, ICT, financial institutions and other allied beats across the country.

Emphasizing that security is core to human development, Dr. Oyekan said: ‘There is nothing you can do in this world if you don’t have security. Without security, you have nothing. Whatever riches you have, everyone attach a security officer or another to themselves’ even as he mentioned the task of LNSA and the support that Gov. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-olu has shown them over the years.

Oyekan noted that Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu in line with his T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda has beefed up the LNSA with the establishment of new units such as Forensic Unit, Forest Rangers, Marine Unit, Technical and Mechanical Units. Trek Africa Newspaper gathered from the LNSA boss, ‘We have started to base our operations on the mid- and long-term projects that we have. A lot of things we have in the bag that we are unfolding. We talk about marine unit – we are saying that a lot of atrocities are committed on water than on land. A lot of atrocities committed on the land, you can take to the waterway but most on the waterway don’t come to the land. It is minimal because nobody goes there to monitor. When we talk about kidnapping, it happens on the land but they take it to the waterway.’

The Lagos Prince added: ‘We talk about forest rangers – people say there are no bushes in Lagos but it is good for us to associate ourselves with global standards. When we train officers as forest rangers, we are being proactive. And their training would be like other forest rangers all over the world.’

‘Of recent, the House of Assembly approved forensic unit. It gladdens our heart because it is one of the things we have been agitating for because when you talk about crime and criminology, you can’t rule out forensics. It goes on and on’, he told Trek Africa Newspaper.

This innovation, Oyekan affirms that it will enhance Security and Governance which is the S – component of the T.H.E.M.E.S. Agenda.

Therefore, ‘I dedicate this NAOSNP award to the Governor who has done very well in the last four years. My principal, Gov. Sanwo-olu is concerned about safety and security. He is concerned about community participation in security. I also dedicate this award to all LNSA officers’, Oyekan concluded.
