Biography of Alhaja Ganiat Mosunmola Sofola
(1966 – 2020)

Late Alhaja Ganiat Mosunmola’s earthly journey began 54 years ago when she was born into the Illustrious family of Late Alhaji and Alhaja Safiriyu Sunmola on November 26, 1966. She hailed from Ijebu Ode, Ogun state.

She attended Omoleye Nursery/Primary School, Onipan and Maryland Comprehensive High School, Maryland, Lagos. Afterwards she proceeded to the prestigious Yaba College of Technology, where she obtained her HND in Accounting in 1989.

After graduating from Yaba College of Technology in 1989, she had her National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) at Texaco from 1989 to 1990 and later, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management in 2006 from the Lagos State University.

Late Alhaja Mosunmola Sofola had over 20 years’ experience in Accounting, Human Resource Management and Marketing in a Petroleum Marketing Company, Chevron Oil Nigeria Plc., now MRS Oil Nigeria Plc., where she worked in different capacities as Accounting Officer, Human Resources Officer and Territorial Consumer & Industrial Business Consultant from 1991 to 2011.

As Territorial Consumer & Industrial Business Consultant, she played a strategic role in the turnaround and management of C&I sales as a result of change from Chevron Oil Nigeria Plc., to MRS Oil Nigeria Plc.

After leaving the Oil & Gas Sector in 2011, she established her privately owned business organisation, Bishols Integrated Concepts and supported her husband, the present Chairman of Kosofe Local Government in the development and growth of the local council area particularly in manpower development, poverty alleviation, health and education.

Until her demise, she was the President of the wives of council Chairmen in Lagos state; she was also the President of Mosunmola Sofola Hope Foundation, a Non-Governmental Organisation.

She got married to Mr. Mikhail Afolabi Sofola, the incumbent Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, on the 13th of December, 1997. They are blessed with 3 children.

She was an Alumni of Yaba College of Technology; member, Trustee Downs Syndrome Foundation and Nigerian Institute of Bankers. She was conferred with Islamic titles; Ameerat Muslimat of Kosofe Land & Asiwaju Adeen Al-Abrar, in recognition of her contributions to the propagation of Islam.

During her life time, Alhaja Mosunmola Sofola took charity as a divine calling, and she pursued this to the best of her ability, showing concern for the privileged and widows across Kosofe Local Government and even beyond.

She will be sorely missed by all.
