LASIEC Denies Allegations of Unpaid Wages to Ad-hoc Staff

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has denied media reports claiming that ad-hoc staff used during the July 12, 2025 local government elections were yet to be paid their allowances a month after the polls.
In a statement released by its Public Affairs Department, the Commission said all verified ad-hoc staff had been paid in line with its established schedule.
The statement explained that payments were completed within two weeks of the election, a timeline the Commission described as unprecedented in its operations.
LASIEC said only a few cases were still pending due to incomplete or incorrect bank details submitted by some of the ad-hoc workers.
The Commission noted that those affected had been advised to contact their respective Electoral Officers to correct their account details.
It added that verification was ongoing with designated officers to ensure that all outstanding allowances were settled promptly.
The Commission emphasized that at no point did it receive formal complaints or petitions from ad-hoc staff regarding unpaid wages.
It also denied insinuations of embezzlement, insisting that such claims were false and misleading.
LASIEC said reports suggesting mismanagement of staff payments were capable of undermining public confidence in democratic institutions.
The Commission further faulted the use of the word “outrage” in the media publication, describing it as unnecessarily sensational.
According to the statement, LASIEC remains committed to transparency, integrity, and fairness in the discharge of its duties.
The Commission stressed that the contributions of ad-hoc staff were critical to the success of the elections and that their welfare was a priority.
It urged members of the public and the media to verify information before circulation in order to avoid misinformation.
LASIEC assured that every verified ad-hoc staff would receive full payment once bank account issues were corrected.
The Commission concluded by reaffirming its dedication to strengthening electoral credibility and ensuring public trust in its processes.
