Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako

The Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Idris Salako on Thursday during the on-going Special Enforcement Operations said that the State would henceforth come down heavily on Property Owners and Developers found to be breaking Government seals on properties sealed for various abuses of the Physical Planning Laws of the State.

The Commissioner observed, while directing the resealing of a commercial development on Lugard Avenue in Ikoyi for various infractions of the building code, that some unscrupulous Developers were in the habit of breaking the seal to carry out construction overnight, thereby further endangering not only the structures but more importantly lives.

He therefore warned those who are in the habit of breaking Government seals to desist from such acts or face the full wrath of the law.

He enjoined all developers to always secure Planning Permit from Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority(LASPPPA) and notify the Lagos State Building Control Agency(LASBCA) prior to the commencement of any construction works.

Salako urged residents to support Government effort to curb the menace of illegal, unapproved development as he supervised the sealing of 52 more unapproved structures in different parts of the State.

41 of these structures were sealed on Fastac link Road in Amuwo Odofin Local Government area, while the remaining 11 structures were sealed in Ikoyi-Obalende Local Council Development Area and Eti-Osa Local Government Area in locations such as Awolowo Road, Igbo Efon and Ikate Elegushi.

” I urge all Lagosians to be part of the vanguard to checkmate the menace of illegal building construction
by tipping off the authorities when you discover any illegal development, as it has been observed that some developers build overnight in order to circumvent procedure” he said.

With him on the enforcement operation were the Special Adviser to the Governor on Urban Development, Hon. Ganiyu Adele Ayuba, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Arc. Foluso Adebayo Dipe, General Manager LASBCA, Engr. Biola Kosegbe, operatives of LASPPPA and the Special Operations Team of the Governor’s Office.
