Lagos Assembly Gets New Principal Officers as Speaker Mojisola Meranda Presides Over First Plenary
By Trek Africa Newspaper

The Lagos State House of Assembly has ushered in a new era with Mojisola Meranda at the helm. On Friday, she presided over her first plenary as Speaker and announced the appointment of new principal officers. This development comes after the impeachment of her predecessor, Mudashiru Obasa, on Monday.
Obasa, who had been Speaker for nine years, was ousted by 32 out of 40 members over allegations of gross misconduct. He was noticeably absent from the plenary session on Friday.
Under Meranda’s leadership, the Assembly has named new principal officers, including:
Majority Leader: Temitope Adewale (APC-Ifako-Ijaiye 1)
Deputy Majority Leader: Adedamola Kasunmu (APC-Ikeja 1)
Chief Whip: Setonjo David (APC-Badagry 2)
Deputy Chief Whip: Babatunde Saani (APC-Kosofe 2)
Meranda’s predecessor, Obasa, had been a dominant figure in the Assembly, and his impeachment marks a significant shift in the state’s political landscape.
