The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos has responded to the protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly regarding the constitution of local government cabinets. In a statement issued on Monday, party spokesperson Seye Oladejo expressed the party’s recognition and respect for the right of party members and stakeholders to express their grievances in a democratic manner.

“Peaceful protests are a legitimate feature of civic engagement, and we commend those who have conducted themselves calmly and orderly,” Oladejo said.

The APC also reassured the public that the selection of cabinet members for the 20 Local Government Councils and 37 Local Council Development Areas would follow “the laid down rules and the internal party guidelines” after consultations with local party leadership. “Please note that the party at the state level only plays an advisory role,” Oladejo clarified.

The statement strongly denied any allegation that the APC was imposing nominations on local governments. “We hereby vehemently deny any allegation to impose nomination on any local government. We want to advise interested members to approach their local leadership who are the custodians of the powers to nominate,” he said.

Oladejo emphasized the party’s commitment to resolving any concerns through constructive dialogue. “We remain committed to constructive dialogue to review concerns and disputes to ensure fair outcomes in line with party values.”

The APC also called on the protesters to channel their concerns through official party organs, highlighting that these structures are in place to address dissent and foster unity. “Our structures exist precisely to address dissent, evaluate claims, and foster unity,” Oladejo added.

The party reaffirmed its confidence in resolving internal matters without external escalation. “APC remains confident in its capacity to resolve internal issues without external escalation. Our ultimate goal is stability within both the party and the state governance structure.”

The APC concluded by urging protesters to exercise patience and understanding in order to achieve the desired objectives. “We trust our leadership at various levels to follow the guidelines and endeavor to be fair to all and sundry,” Oladejo said.
