JUST IN: House of Reps Backs President Tinubu, Approves State of Emergency in Rivers

House of Representatives approves President Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, citing political instability.

Governor Sim Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the Rivers State Assembly suspended for six months.

Federal Government takes over administration of the state as crisis deepens, with security agencies placed on high alert.

The House of Representatives has officially approved the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, following a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

This medium reports that this decision also includes the six-month suspension of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The declaration comes amid heightened political tensions and a deepening crisis in the state. Over the past few months, Rivers has been embroiled in intense political battles, primarily between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The power struggle has led to factional divisions within the state assembly, legal battles, and escalating unrest.

Sources indicate that the move by President Tinubu was necessitated by concerns over governance stability, security threats, and the inability of political actors in the state to resolve their disputes amicably.
