The Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has asserted that the red cap, a symbol of the Kwankwasiyya Movement associated with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, will soon fade from Kano State.

He also forecasted victories for President Bola Tinubu and other candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming presidential, governorship, national, and state House of Assembly elections in 2027.

Jibrin made these comments while welcoming politicians who have defected from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the APC. He noted the influx of NNPP members, including leaders, joining the APC as evidence of the party’s increasing popularity and support in Kano, despite its opposition status.

“I will continue to welcome NNPP members who are eager to join our party. Politics is about numbers. If a political party isn’t attracting members from others, it indicates a problem,” Jibrin stated. He attributed the migration of NNPP members to the APC’s numerous interventions in vital areas within the state and the broader country under President Tinubu’s administration.

He recalled how, during the formation of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu traveled across the nation to garner support for the party, which contributed to its popularity. “We will keep welcoming members from the NNPP and other parties, regardless of what some may say. Soon, you will look for someone wearing a red cap, the symbol of Kwankwasiyya, and you won’t find any in Kano. We are committed to making this happen.”

Jibrin emphasized that these efforts are aimed at establishing a solid foundation for the APC and for President Tinubu and others to secure victories in the 2027 elections in Kano and beyond. His remarks were relayed in a statement by his media aide, Ismail Mudashir.

Also present at the event, the Deputy National Women Leader of the APC, Hajiya Zainab Abubakar Ibrahim, expressed optimism about the APC’s prospects in Kano for the 2027 elections. “The overwhelming support our party is receiving in Kano indicates that the days of the NNPP are numbered. By Allah’s grace, we will reclaim our state in the upcoming polls,” she asserted.
