IN TOUCH WITH THE GRASSROOTS: LAGOS CP ABIODUN ALABI MEETS KOSOFE LGA CHAIRMAN, MOYO OGUNLEWE, LAGOS PCRC

As a way to foster the amiable relationship which exists between the Nigeria Police and communities in Lagos, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos Command, CP Sylvester Abiodun Alabi met the Chairman of Kosofe LGA, Barr. Moyosore Ogunlewe and members of the PCRC in Area H Command. This was during his visit to the men and officers of the Area H Command Headquarters Kosofe during the week.

Describing CP Alabi’s visit as ‘meeting the grassroots’, the Chairman, Moyosore Ogunlewe praised CP Abiodun Alabi for the great works since he took the saddle in Lagos State Command. He said: ‘This is what is called meeting the grassroots. I have been in government for about 7 months, glory be to God that the crime rate in our LG has reduced. A lot of cult clashes existed before we came in, working with the Police for me is one of my priorities and glory to God, it has reduced drastically. I must commend you again, this is my second time of meeting you. Thank you for the sleepless nights, God will continue to be with you. Thank you for coming.’

‘It is the beginning of new things for Lagos State because Lagos is one of the toughest states in West Africa. We pray to God to assist you. We at the local government will assist to make your job easy. We are planning to do more to assist the Police’, Oki Samson of Trek Africa Newspaper gathered from the council boss.

On his part, the Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Lagos Command, Apostle Kehinde Showemimo noted that the Police and the PCRC have worked together like siblings. Praising the great works that the PCRC has done in Area H Command which has 11 divisions, the Chairman shared: ‘There are 13 structures here. It is only the outpost of Ketu that was built by government. Well, excluding the perimeter fencing, all others were built by the PCRC and the community.’

The council boss, Moyosore Ogunlewe lauded the efforts of the PCRC in Kosofe. ‘I am also a member before I came into office. I commend you for all we have done. We will continue to assist you.’

‘I will make sure we have a meeting after this to see how we can assist the Police in this environment’, he assured the leader of the Lagos CP.

In his response, CP Abiodun Alabi said: ‘I, as an officer, embrace someone assisting us to do our job. So if there is anything that will enhance our efficiency, please talk to us. Let me place it on record that the PCRC Chairman and members are doing very well to ensure that we have relative peace. I want you to improve by partnering with Police hierarchy to make our environment very peaceful for everyone to go about their lawful businesses without molestation, harassment, or fear. I want to most sincerely appreciate your efforts and thank you for what you do for our Area Commands, and by extension, the State Command.’

The CP used the opportunity to call others to support the Police. ‘Non-state actors, state actors, and other stakeholders are expected to be brought on board for them to have constant engagement with Police hierarchy to assist us in doing our job. It will enhance confidence building and public trust.’

‘I sincerely appreciate you and still implore you to improve on the support you are giving us’, the CP concluded.
