The General Overseer of Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye, has debunked reports that he had a meeting with the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, and endorsed him ahead of 2023 election in the country.

Adeboye said that there was no time he had any meeting with Tinubu, who was a former governor of Lagos State, and that he has not endorsed any of the presidential candidates vying to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari next year.

The clarification was made by the cleric after reports were disseminated publicly that the octogenarian cleric had endorsed Tinubu, who was led to the church by his wife and senator representing Lagos-Central senatorial district, Oluremi.

The cleric, through a statement by the church media office on Tuesday and made available to newsmen, stressed that he remains a bonafide member of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), and would not usurp roles of both bodies to speak for Christians across the country.

The cleric, meanwhile, urged Nigerians to disregard all reports indicating that he and Tinubu met and assured members of the church that he would often remain apolitical.

According to the statement, “It has come to our notice that some news outlets are reporting that a meeting Between Pastor E.A. Adeboye, The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God Worldwide, and the former Governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was held a few days back at the Redemption Camp where our esteemed father in the Lord was said to have supported the preferred candidature of the party the former governor is a member of.

“This is to inform the general public that Pastor E.A. Adeboye is under the authority of God, the Christian Association of Nigeria, and the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, and as such, will not speak on behalf of Christians on issues regarding policies.

“Pastor E.A.Adeboye and the RCCG have not and will not endorse any candidate for the 2023 General elections in Nigeria.

“News outlets should desist from spreading false information about Pastor E.A. Adeboye and the RCCG as it defeats the code and ethics of journalism and the full weight of the law will be employed if such happens in future.”
